This is a big mine located in the middle of the mountains and woods, in a very wild area, with no human settlements. The areas restored by the Group amount to about 25 hectares, 9 of which were remodeled in 2010, with the planting of 61.000 shrubs and plants.
Several areas have been restored, the largest of which is Predas Biancas-Ruvosu, which covers more than 10 hectares.
Although separated from each other, all the areas are connected by a natural network of woods and Mediterranean scrub-land that allows the free passage of wildlife from one area to another. In Predas Biancas-Ruvosu, 7 out of 10 hectares are very recent, being grassed, with thousands of seedlings just planted. In the upper part of this sector, where there used to be an old office, there is an area restored where a beautiful pond can be found and where the introduced vegetation has started to grow. Here one can anticipate what the future restoration will be like, with native Sardinia vegetation and fauna.
In particular, the area has been designed to recreate a habitat suitable for butterflies, because many of them are endemic and therefore have a high conservation value. A special blend of herbs and flowers were therefore developed and a good number of plants suitable to hosting caterpillars have taken root.
From 2012, a census to see which butterflies appreciate the restructuring work done by Minerali Industriali will begin.
